Pan African
Unity Festival

The festival is rooted in the idea of Pan-African unification between the African continent and the global African Diaspora, with a special bridge to the Caribbean and Jamaica.

Roots reggae is a subgenre of reggae that deals with the everyday lives and aspirations of Africans and those in the African Diaspora, including the spiritual side of Rastafari, black liberation, revolution and the honouring of God, called Jah by Rastafarians.

The invasion of Ethiopia by fascist Italy was greeted with trepidation and outrage by peoples of African descent across the world. The Ethiopian cause concentrated on existing struggles against colonialism and racism both on the African continent and in the Diaspora - the Caribbean, Europe, and North America especially. In fact, a resurgent Pan-Africanism grew under the banner of Ethiopia, calling for the political unity of all peoples of African descent, regardless of nationality, creed or language. Due to its existence as an imperial centre, Britain was an especially important site for the catalysing of Pan-Africanism as workers, intellectuals and activists gathered in its major conurbations from the Caribbean, the continent and wider afield.

Built around a live Reggae Festival and a simultaneous 48-hour global livestream on the FreakinFuture entertainment channel, the festival will serve as a high-impact awareness platform introducing audiences to the FreakinFuture ecosystem: a 360 creative platform connecting fashion, music, digital art, sustainable African resources, immersive storytelling, and next-generation commerce.
